Jackie Robinson
Jackie Robinson was one of the greatest baseball and over all athlete ever. He was one of the best basketball players, soccer players, golf players, tennis players, and the very first negro on a white major league team.
The experiment
Jackie was one of the blacks with a temper, but when the "experiment" began, he had to turn the other cheek, and he did so with help of Mr. Branch Rickey. Rickey was hired as the new coach because Leo Durocher got kicked out of a game and then got replaced.
Jackie's hard adventure!!!
Jackie's long adventure was not easy. He was booed and called horrible names, his team mates even treated him wrong. But he just turned the other cheek.
From Good to Bad
Jackie didn't always get booed. When the fans saw that Jackie was pretty good, some started to cheer for him, but as he got older, he got worse and worse.
Retire or Not
Jackie was thinking about retiring so he could go be with his wife [Rachel] and his son [Jackie Jr.], he spent a long time thinking about it, but he decided not to. When he went to tell Rickey, Rickey had bad news, he told Jackie that he traded him to the Giants, thats when he retired.
Life after Baseball
When Jackie retired, he began a job as a spokes man, talking to other blacks about his experiences in baseball. Jackie Robinson died at a young age on October 24, 1972 at the age of 53 years old. Though Jackie was booed and went through a lot, he made a big diffrence in Negro baceball.
