CHILDHOOD: Ruby Bridges
Hi my name is Ruby Bridges. I was born in September 8, 1954 in the hospital of Tylertown Mississippi. I lived during the time of Civil Rights. When I was born my family and I went to live on my Grandparents farm. When my family moved to New Orleans I love going back in the summers to visit the farm. I love when it's hot and sunny at the farm. I was four when my family moved to New Orleans.
FAMILY:
My Mother worked sometimes at night to clean rooms in one of the city's hotel. My Father worked as a service station attendant. My Mother brought my brothers and sister to believing in God. My Mother was very strict she doesn't allow nonsense from her kids.
SCHOOL:
For kindergarten I went to Locket Elementary which was an Segregated schools. (Segregated means to seperate, Black and White schools were Segregated.) I like my teacher Mrs. Kings.
While I was in school I didn't know that two White public schools were going to Intergrate black students. (Intergration means to mix together, school wanted to mix Black and White.) I toke the test at the age of five. I was confuse why I was taking it. I was being tested and if I past the test I could go to one of the Intergrated Schools. I past the test and the NAACP which are well respected people who work for equal rights for Black said I could go to William Frantz for better education.
INTERGRATION:
It was me a six year old that change many people's life. It was a difficult moment for my family. The first day at William Frantz was easy. All I did was sit with my mamma in the office. I didn't understand why moms were taking their kids out of school. Every time I go to school white people are acting crazy, mean and saying bad things to me. I didn't understand all these tings untill one day when Mrs. Henry and I was walking on the playground I asked a boy '' May I play with you'' and he said ''no'' So I ask'' why not'' and he said'' Because you're a Nigger and my mom said not to play with Niggers.'' That's when it all made sense to me. Because I was black that's why White people always do those mean things. But I still pray for those fokes. When I was in Second grade Whites got tire of trying to convience me of going to William Frantz. That's when people started allowing black and white to go to the same schools. I made a huge inpack on people's life. I RUBY BRIDGES!
